Hey guys !
To accommodate most people we are trying out a new meeting time : Sundays at 7 pm as always in the link. Currently, our teams are mainly focusing on putting together funding strategies and applying for grants for this summer's assessment trip. Contact us if you want to help out !
The new DEID Kenya project was launched at the beginning of the fall semester 2011. It started based on a primary assessment trip, completed by the DEID-Uganda team in the summer of 2011.
Potential goals of the Kenya project include the development of a rural electrification scheme in Soysambu and finding solutions to security issues as well as addressing the energy needs of residents of Mbirikani. Soysambu and Mbirikani are both located in the Great Rift Valley and are located approximately 5 to 7 hours away from each other. It is undecided which site we shall focus on if we choose not to do both. We will strive to identify and implement innovative solutions that can help the community overcome the obstacles it is facing. As a first step, our research will focus on finding sustainable energy sources to provide a centralized building that also serves as a clinic with energy in Soysambu. With regards to Mbirikani, we hope to develop simple but effective means to protect the village from wild animals. Our most pertinent objective though, is sustainability. Whatever solutions we choose to implement eventually shall need to be community-driven so as to ensure continuity of the improvements.
